News Update

CURRENTLY WE ARE UPDATING OUR SITE SO SOME OF THE LINKS ARE WORKING, IF YOU NEED ASSISTANCE JUST CALL 519-954-4431

Keeping everyone updated, the budget was just released and for those that are interested, I have included it here.

From page 115 of the new Budget Document, I have included the following quotation:

"$400 million in 2011–12 for the ecoENERGY Retrofit –Homes program to help homeowners make their homes more energy efficient and reduce the burden of high energy costs. Further details regarding this program will be announced in the near future."

As of the time that I composed this email, we have not received any further direction from NRCan. In the coming hours, days or weeks, I will keep everyone updated, but anticipate that we will have to wait for the budget to pass before the program is formally reintroduced.

How to Save ON Energy

The Ontario Power Authority (OPA) has launched a series of conservation programs designed for all types of businesses, industry and public sector consumers. The programs help to fund energy audits, retrofit existing equipment and pursue new construction that exceeds existing building codes.

The legislative Assembly of Ontario has completed the Second reading of Bill 182, Radon Awareness and Prevention Act, 2011. It has been Ordered referred to the Standing Committee on Social Policy

Short Summary

The Bill enacts the Radon Awareness and Prevention Act, 2011 and amends the Building Code Act, 1992 with respect to radon.

The Act provides for the establishment of the Ontario Radon Registry, and requires radon measurement specialists and laboratories to provide the Registry with specified information.

The Minister is required to educate the public about radon, and to encourage homeowners to measure the radon levels in their homes and take remedial action, if necessary.

The Minister is also required to ensure that the radon level in every provincially owned dwelling is measured and that remedial action is taken, if necessary. Similarly, owners of enclosed workplaces are required to ensure that the radon level in an enclosed workplace is measured and that remedial action is taken, if necessary.

The Building Code Act, 1992 is amended to provide authority for regulations that require dwellings to be constructed in a way that minimizes radon entry and facilitates post-construction radon removal. The Minister is required to review those requirements within five years after day the Radon Awareness and Prevention Act, 2011 comes into force.
